Foi diretor da Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Comercial de Minas, presidente do Sistema Federa\u00e7\u00e3o das Ind\u00fastrias do Estado de Minas Gerais (Fiemg) e vice-presidente da Confedera\u00e7\u00e3o Nacional da Ind\u00fastria (CNI). Elegeu-se vice-presidente do Brasil na chapa do candidato do PT, Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva, em 2003, conseguindo a reelei\u00e7\u00e3o em 2006.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:
